Should You Install MacOS Mojave on your Mac?

Apple Inc. has release their latest MacOS Mojave for all the Macbook, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, iMac and iMac Pro devices. Many people can’t wait to get their hands on the latest MacOS Mojave, including us. But, before you click on the “Update” button in the App Store, what are the things that you should always do?

What devices can support running MacOS Mojave?

As Apple mentioned during the WWDC that the free software update for Macs will only run on systems from mid-2012 or later, plus 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards.

To be more specific:

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac Mini (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommend Metal-capable GPU)

According to Apple, the above models are able to run MacOS Mojave smoothly. For non-supported models, you might get an update ping on the Mojave update but it is not advisable to hit on that Update button. (Do at your own risk!)

As Apple’s System Update ecosystem is highly advance in the sense that you can update it Online via App Store, there is a risk that your MacOS update can corrupt due to unstable network.

What are the things that you should do before updating?

  1. Backup All your Important Files!

Yes, this is the utmost important thing to do before updating your desktop MacOS Mojave. Like we mentioned above, your network connection might be unstable at times and cause your update file to corrupt and hence, you will not be able to turn on your iMac or Macbook anymore.

After all the above criteria fits, you’re good to go!
