Why do Mac Studio ports stop working?

A faulty cable, hub or dock can push the wrong voltage into a port and burn the circuit behind it. It’s the most common cause we see.
Daily plugging and unplugging
The front ports and the SD card slot get used the most. Over time the connector wears, a pin bends, and the connection drops.

A surge doesn’t only come down the power cord. It can come in through a connected display, a drive or the network cable, and take out that port.

My Mac Studio is not detecting my monitor. Is it the port?
Try another cable and another port first. If the monitor works on other ports, the one port is damaged and we repair it. If no port shows a picture, the display circuit on the logicboard has failed, and we quote that before we start.
One Thunderbolt port stopped working. Can you fix just that port?
Yes. We repair the one damaged port at board level. The rest of the ports and the logicboard stay as they are.
Can you repair the HDMI port on a Mac Studio?
Yes. We repair the HDMI port on every Mac Studio, including ports damaged by a bad cable or a surge through the display.
My Mac Studio USB ports are not working. What’s wrong?
Unplug every hub and test each port on its own. If the two USB-A ports at the back still don’t see anything, the port or the circuit that feeds them has failed. We test and repair both.
The SD card slot on my Mac Studio won’t read cards. Can you fix it?
Yes. We clean or replace the SD card reader and test it with our own cards before you collect.
My Mac Studio Ethernet port has no connection. Can you fix it?
Yes. A surge through the network cable is a common cause. We test the 10Gb Ethernet port and repair it at board level.
A hub or dock burnt my Mac Studio port. Is the logicboard damaged?
Sometimes. A bad hub can burn the port and the circuit behind it. We repair the port and test the rest of the board, and tell you before we start if anything else is damaged.
