Can Touch ID be fixed without top-case replacement?

Will I lose biometric data during repair?

Yes! For security purposes, Touch ID resets automatically upon replacing the Touch ID sensor.

However, you can easily setup the Fingerprint post repair at System Settings > Touch ID & Password > Touch ID > Add Fingerprint section.

How long does replacement take?

Touch ID replacement requires around 1-2 hours including calibrating the touch ID and downloading system configuration settings from Apple’s Proprietary System.

Can water-damaged Touch ID be repaired?

Depending on the degree of damage. Sometimes, water damaged Touch ID can be fixed by cleaning the cable and also the logicboard side of the Touch ID. However, certain cases where the water damage is too serious that it requires replacement.
