How To Prepare For iPhone Battery Replacement : Before Replacement

  1. Assessing Battery Health
The first step in planning for an iPhone battery replacement is to determine the device’s current battery health / situation you are facing. This helps you grasp the scope of the problem and can help you explain it to the customer.

Check battery health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If the maximum capacity is much less than 80%, or if there are any warning signs concerning the battery’s health, it’s time to replace.
  2. Knowing The Type of iPhone Battery That You Will Be Replacing
Only Brand New Apple Genuine iPhone Battery, will show “Apple Genuine Part” message after replacement. This means that the new battery installed is a Genuine iPhone battery from Apple and Apple is notified about it. After the replacement, the technician will reconfigure the new battery to the iOS System in your phone using Apple Diagnostic Console (which is only accessible by Apple Authorised Repairers).

How To Check : Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History

WARNING : Some other people say that they can replace the battery while maintaining the battery health and it is original. After the replacement of the new iPhone battery Cell, it will show your battery health (100%), but the record is not updated to Apple. There is no Genuine Part Message displayed in the Settings of the iPhone.

Which means, this is a modified battery, as iPhone batteries for iPhone XS and later are serialized, the battery health shown in iOS is displayed via the iPhone Cable. By modifying the iPhone cable from the Old Original Battery and Soldering the cable to the new battery Cell, that does not consider the battery as original and Apple is not aware about it.
  3. Backing Up Your iPhone
Before starting any repair, it is important and recommended to back up customer data (even though our iPhone battery replacement will not erase your phone data, unless you are using any BETA version of iOS. With the BETA version of iOS, we are unable to run Apple Diagnostic Suite to configure the battery to the phone.) An unexpected issue during battery replacement can lead to data loss.

    Recommended backup methods:
iCloud Backup: Go to Settings > “Your Name” > iCloud > iCloud Backup, then select Back Up Now.
iTunes or Finder: Connect your iPhone to a computer and backup it using iTunes or Finder by selecting the device and selecting Back Up Now.
  4. Ensuring You Have Access To Your Apple ID and Password
Keeping a record of your Apple ID and Password is crucial for us to perform Genuine iPhone Battery Replacement as Apple requires FIND MY feature to be turned off so that Apple Diagnostic Suite is able to access the phone from Apple’s Server and Download the right configuration for the iPhone battery into the phone.

Find My is an asset tracking service developed by Apple that was introduced in 2019 as part of iCloud, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina (10.15) to keep track of your Apple devices’ location. It was the result of merging Find My Friends and Find My iPad/iPhone/Mac.

The launch of iOS 17.3, Apple introduced a new security feature called – “Stolen Device Protection“. Stolen Device Protection is a feature that block users from directly turning off “Find My” feature, leaving the person who got hold of your phone 0 chance to be off your radar. So you have the chance to track the device’s location even if it is turned off.

This is a feature that requires facial recognition to turn on/off the feature before we are able to make any changes to the Find My Settings. iPhone users are required to turn off Stolen Device Protection – which has a 1 hour cool down period, before they can turn off the “Find My” feature. This is a very good feature to protect all Apple users from losing their device so easily, but it is also a challenge for us the repairers.
