M1 to M5: not possible
The memory is inside the Apple chip. Be careful of anyone who says they can upgrade it.
Not on 2016–2020 Intel
We don’t offer RAM upgrades on MacBook Pro 2016 to 2020 or MacBook Air 2018 to 2020. A new battery or an SSD upgrade, where the model allows it, often helps more.

Can my MacBook’s RAM be upgraded?
MacBook Pro 2010–2012
The 13″ and 15″ non-Retina models (A1278, A1286) have 2 removable RAM slots. The simplest RAM upgrade, up to 16GB.
MacBook Air 2010–2017
The RAM is soldered to the board. We replace the memory chips to take it up to 16GB.
MacBook Pro Retina 2012–2015
Also soldered (A1425, A1502, A1398). We replace the chips on the board, up to 16GB.
2016–2020 Intel
We don’t offer it on MacBook Pro 2016 to 2020 or MacBook Air 2018 to 2020.
M1 to M5
Unified memory is part of the Apple chip. It can’t be changed after purchase, by anyone.

Can I upgrade the RAM on my M1, M2, M3, M4 or M5 MacBook?
No. On Apple silicon the memory is built into the chip itself. It can’t be changed after purchase, even by Apple.
Which MacBooks can have their RAM upgraded?

Can you upgrade the RAM on a 2016 to 2020 MacBook Pro or 2018 to 2020 MacBook Air?
No, we don’t offer RAM upgrades on these models. A new battery or an SSD upgrade, where the model allows it, is often the better way to speed them up.
Can I upgrade the RAM on a MacBook Neo?
No. The MacBook Neo has 8GB of memory built into the A18 Pro chip, so it can’t be upgraded after purchase, by anyone.
Is MacBook RAM upgradeable?
Only on older Intel models: MacBook Air 2010 to 2017, MacBook Pro 2010 to 2012 and MacBook Pro Retina 2012 to 2015, up to 16GB. On 2016 and newer MacBooks the RAM is soldered and locked or built into the chip, and we don’t upgrade it.
Can you upgrade the RAM on a 2011, 2013, 2014 or 2015 MacBook?
Yes. The 2011 and 2012 MacBook Pro (A1278, A1286) take removable RAM from RM600. MacBook Air 2013 to 2017 and MacBook Pro Retina 2013 to 2015 have soldered RAM, upgraded from RM850. All up to 16GB.
How much RAM can I put in my MacBook?

How do I know if I need more RAM?
Open Activity Monitor and click Memory. If Memory Pressure is yellow or red when you work, more RAM will help.
How long does a MacBook RAM upgrade take?
1 to 3 days. Removable RAM on the 2010 to 2012 MacBook Pro is quicker. Soldered RAM is a board-level job.
Will I lose my data?
No. A RAM upgrade doesn’t touch your files or macOS. Keep a backup anyway.
Do you give a warranty on MacBook RAM upgrade?
Yes, 6 months on every RAM upgrade.
